So later in the day when we had all napped and refreshed ourselves we sent Brady out to see what he could find out. (Brady is Taiwanese and was having a much easier time communicating than the rest of us non-chinese speaking foreigners). Wes joined up with him after a bit to try and help out. One place would not rent to us because we were foreigners and another wouldn't rent to Brady because he doesn't have his license. Being awesome though, Brady managed to hook us up with three scooters by the end of the afternoon and had a fourth lined up that we could pick up that night at 10.
So we wandered our way into downtown Hualien, which is much like downtown Taipei.
The first three pictures below are the mountain range view from my hotel room. The whole weekend was kind of cloudy, but it cooled the world down and was excellent weather for driving around in. Pretty sweet.
