Damn Drain

Why is it that something as simple as fixing a drain cover is a ridiculous pain in the ass? The drain cover got loosened when I was trying to figure out why the drain was running slow. I poured clog remover down the drain, waited the appropriate amount of time, poured hot water down it and voila! Quick running drain again. Now however the part that was attached to the screw has dropped and that is the same thing as putting a stopper in the drain.
I cannot get the stupid screw back into place and I cannot remove the whole thing because it is cemented into place.
So currently I am using a chopstick to hold the drain open until I can go to the housing office and attempt to get them to fix it.
