Custard and apple now together!

This is a custard apple. It is also called a Buddha Head by Asians because it looks like the Buddha's head when his hair is braided. I had been seeing them in the markets and finally found out what they actually were so I decided to try it out.

This is what it looks like when you rip it open. This one is really ripe and had a nice sweet smell when I broke it open. The white parts that look a bit like really thin pyramids are what get eaten. There is a slimy coating on the inside right next to the peel, but it all tastes nice.

Each segment has a seed that looks like a large apple seed and is not edible.
It has a sweet custardy taste, but I didn't really taste apple.
If anyone else has ever tried one maybe you could offer your thoughts on flavor.
