Sugared Furniture

So this weekend I was a bit busy.
Friday after work I went to furniture street with Tania and Magda. Furniture street is full of shops that sell used and new pieces of furniture. We stopped in the first store and ended up buying everything we wanted there. Now before you start telling me and I should look around and compare prices, just calm down. I've been to this street before and the shops that sell new furniture all have the same catalogs with the same furniture in them. It's possible you could haggle the price down a bit, but the difference is going to be pretty small and not really worth the effort of walking around to every shop.
We ended up buying from this shop because the owner was very nice and personable and wasn't trying to rob us blind.
I was looking for a small table and some folding chairs to put in my mountain view room. There's already a built-in desk in there, but I don't really like it. Plus I'm having bunches of people over for Thanksgiving in a couple weeks and I could really use a little more flat surface space. They'll be delivered next Saturday. I love getting new stuff.
Now I need to atone for my sin though, because I was supposed to bring Tony and I failed to invite him along this time. I decided last minute to go on a Friday evening and didn't think he would be free, so instead of asking him I just didn't invite him. I am not smart sometimes.

When I got home that evening I baked a cake. "Now why would you do that?" I hear you asking.
I'll tell you, the next day was Tony's housewarming/birthday party and he requested a vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. No problem. I made the cake without any trouble and let it cool overnight so I could frost it the next day. The next day I get around to making the frosting, but I don't have any powdered sugar. I had tried to find some during the week, but in vain. I had purchased some before, but I could not for the life of me remember where I got it (still can't).
There's a trick where you can put regular sugar in a blender and blend it for a minute or two to make your very own powdered sugar so that's what I did. Only I didn't do it very well.
I made up the frosting and it was grainy. Frosting should not be grainy. It tasted fine, but the texture was not good.
Crud.
I wonder if a food processor would do it better?
Anyway, the only places I know of that I can get pre-made frosting are a good 40 minute trek away. So I went out into the world in search of frosting. When I got to the area I needed to be in I first stopped in a couple of store near the MRT station before hopping in a cab to get where I was aiming for. The first place, not surprisingly, didn't have frosting or powdered sugar. The second place up the street however had powdered sugar. Yay! For only 32nt a cup. Yeesh! That's about a dollar a cup for those of you playing at home. Pretty expensive for sugar.

I went home with my sugar, made wonderful frosting and a delicious cake was frosted. Hopefully next time things will go a little easier.
