Rushing About

I have been having a crazy, busy week. I had the interview I told you about on Tuesday (I still say what the hell to that one. Who just throws you in a classroom without at least a preliminary interview first. Good Grief!)
Today I had two interviews. I had to arise at the ridiculous time of 5:45 so I could make it to the first school on time. Turns out I didn't need to be quite so ambitious about it, but I made it there.
This school is called Kang Chiao. Don't ask me how to pronounce because I keep messing it up.
In order to get there I had to take a train, the MRT and a bus. It took me a bit of time. The bus drives up the mountain through these gorgeous European style housing blocks that are clearly really expensive. Every place you drive by that has an open garage has at least one Mercedes, Audi, BMW or other high end type vehicle.
Plus the view is amazing. This school is literally at the top of a mountain. The school itself is a full spectrum elementary up through senior high school. The job I interviewed for is as an English foreign language teacher. Compared to the last interview I had this one was much more traditionally Western. Two adults sat down in a room with us (there was also a guy being interviewed) and asked us questions. Once they finished with us they would make a decision and call us to ask us back to do a teaching demo if they liked us.
The interviewers were laid-back and generally nice people. I think I could happily work in that department with those people. The major draw-back is the commute. There's no way I would be able to live close to the school without sinking my entire monthly paycheck into living expenses. That would rather defeat the purpose of living here. I could live in the city at the base of the mountain (this is not as sparse as it sounds by the way. This is a heavily populated area with a ton of mass transportation running at all hours.) and most likely be looking at a minimum 45 minute commute.
They called me about an hour later and asked me to come back and do a demo, so I'll see how that goes.
About 5 minutes after they called me I received another call from another school that I'd applied at. Can I come in for an interview today? Please bring all this paperwork. Okay, not a problem. Crud. All of that paperwork is at home. I have to get back on the MRT and the train, walk home, eat lunch (quickly), get the paperwork, get back on the train and MRT and travel to the opposite side of Taipei. Oh boy.
This school is called WeGo (pronounced Way Go). It is a private junior and senior high school and is in an area I would love to live in. I have also heard good things about the school itself and I had decided awhile ago that I would really like to work there.
So I arrived on time and met Miss Wong who interviewed me for a bit and then asked me to do a teaching demo. This time it was just her in the classroom and I had to try and pretend that class was full of students. I suck at doing this by the way. I feel like a big goober. I spent the first couple minutes explaining to her what I would actually do and she had to remind me to just pretend.
She asked me to go back for a follow up interview so I couldn't have been that bad. We'll see what happens tomorrow.
